Rob Russell Resume
Owner / System Design / Installation / Training
Music has always been at the center of Rob’s life beginning with his childhood. As a kid, Rob’s father introduced him to many of the best recordings ever made. He grew up listening to Fusion recordings created my master musicians such as Bob James, Earl Klugh, George Benson, David Sanborn, Miles Davis, Weather Report, John Klemmer, Spyro Gyra, Lee Ritenour, Grover Washington Jr., Joe Smith and many more.
Rob started exploring different recordings on his own and fell in love with even more genres of music by artists such as Steely Dan, Earth Wind and Fire, Fleetwood Mac, AC/DC, Van Halen, and Kiss. He also loved Jazz records like Jimmy Smith, John Coltrane and Charlie Parker. His passion for music was driven by his ability to recognize sound that was recorded and produced very well even without having any professional experiences thus far in his life.
After high school and studying music at Millikin University for about a year and a half, Rob decided that college was not for him. So, he boldly chose to jump into his career by moving clear across the country to Los Angeles in 1988. He quickly found a job as an assistant at Silverlake Recording Studios. Being on his own in Los Angeles allowed Rob to spend every minute that he could in the studios. Even if he wasn’t getting paid to be there, Rob spent countless hours, day after day, week after week, and so on just to watch, learn, and “network” with some of the best musicians, producers, and engineers in the music business. Within a few years of arriving in LA, Rob started free-lance engineering. Over the next decade, he began working in almost every studio in Los Angeles and the surrounding Valley area including Capital Records, A&M, Larrabee, Rumbo, Mad Hatter, Ocean Way and West Lake. During this time, he worked on many different styles of music. See below for examples of Rob’s work history and experience.
R&B, Gospel-like Brian McKnight, Aaron Neville, Nicolas, Youth Edition, and Left Eye
R.Kelly, Bishop Paul Morton Sr. Tracks for R&B Compilations
Pop / Rock Artists such as Dave Matthews, PC Quest, Tiffany
